Jiu Jitsu is often translated as “The Gentle Art”. It allows a smaller, weaker person to immobilize and opponent and control a situation with as little effort as possible.
Unlike other martial arts that are based around striking, Jiu Jitsu allows practitioners to train at a real-world pace and intensity with much less risk for injury. The techniques in Jiu Jitsu revolve around grappling with the inclusion of “submissions” such as chokes or joint locks. If a student is put in a vulnerable position, they simply “tap out” and the match is ended.
